ACC provides 24 hour seven days a week personal injury cover for everyone in New Zealand.
Purchasing personal injury cover through ACC is compulsory. In setting up the scheme, The New Zealand Government has traded off the right to sue for personal injury in favor of a system providing help to all the people who are injured, whether or not it’s anyone’s fault.
ACC levies (your premiums) are based on claims experience within similar industries.
Self Employed:
You’re automatically covered by ACC Cover Plus as soon as you start self employment, which covers you for medical treatment, rehabilitation and compensation for lost wages (levies are calculated from previous year’s earnings)
ACC Cover Plus Extra is a better option for business owners and the self employed. You need to have certainty of income stream, amount and timing.
